Is Your Child Struggling? You're Not Alone.
As a parent, watching your child go through a hard time and not knowing how to help is one of the most difficult feelings there is. Whether your child is dealing with anxiety, big emotions, friendship struggles, a difficult transition, or just seems "off" lately, therapy can give them a safe space to open up and build skills that will serve them for life. I work with children ages 7 and up in Ottawa, in person and virtually across Ontario, in English and French. I bring creativity, playfulness, and genuine warmth to every session because kids need to feel comfortable before they can do the real work.
Signs Your Child Might Benefit From Therapy
Every child is different, and there's no single sign that means your child "needs" therapy. But here are some things parents often notice:
- Increased anxiety, worry, or fear that gets in the way of daily life
- Frequent meltdowns, anger outbursts, or difficulty managing big emotions
- Withdrawal from friends, family, or activities they used to enjoy
- Changes in sleep, appetite, or school performance
- Difficulty with transitions, a new school, a move, a family change
- Low self-esteem or negative self-talk
- Experiencing or witnessing something traumatic or stressful
If any of these resonate, that's worth a conversation. You know your child best, and reaching out early makes a real difference.
What Child Therapy Actually Looks Like
Kids don't always have the words for what they're feeling and that's completely normal. That's why I use play-informed, age-appropriate approaches that meet children where they are, not where we think they should be.
Sessions are creative, flexible, and adapted to each child. For younger kids, that might mean using activities, drawing, or games to explore emotions and build coping skills. For older children and preteens, sessions look more like conversation, but always at their pace, in a space where they feel genuinely safe.
I respect every child's right to confidentiality. Parent involvement is encouraged and supported when the child consents because when families are engaged in the process, kids tend to thrive.
